The Martinez Family's ministry began in Southern California on June 14,1993 - the date of our first ministry opportunity. The idea and the dream was birthed in the heart and soul of J Preston Martinez (Preston Sr.) many years earlier. During a time of desperation, he wrote a letter and plea of re-commitment to the Lord in 1976. Seventeen years later the dream came to fruition in the formation of The Martinez Family. The Martinez Family consisted of J Preston Martinez and three of his four sons; Preston Martinez (eldest of 4 sons, tenor), Jerry Martinez (3rd-born son, baritone), and Danny Martinez (youngest, lead vocal). They were anointed and sent out to minister and fulfill the words of Luke 4:18-19, which states:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for He has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord's favor has come." (NLT)
Within 3 years, the Lord chose to open the flood gates of ministry opportunities at the celebration of life and home-going for a great family friend and man of God, Don Nixon, where we sang "Bowed on My Knees". It was this day that started what became a ministry schedule consisting of singing and evangelizing at various locations typically every weekend for the next several years. This rigorous schedule ended in July 2007 when The Martinez Family obeyed God's call and began their exodus from California to Tennessee.
Since our beginnings in Tennessee, we have had several opportunities to minister either by music, evangelism, or both. The Martinez Family now consists of Preston Jr., Danny, and Heather Porter (Preston's Daughter). Although we're not nearly as busy a ministry as we were, the hand of God continues to work within each of us to strengthen us and mold us into who He has created us to be, in preparation of each day He gives us - all for His purpose.
Our prayer has been and will continue to be that the Lord do whatever it takes to bring us to where we need to be in Him. "He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less." (John 3:30 NLT) There is no church too far or too small to share Jesus in song and Word. Wherever He opens the door, we will walk through.
